Councillor says new Nandos application is 'an improvement' on previous McDonalds plan in upmarket Croydon high street
A planning application has been submitted for 62 Westow Street, currently occupied by Poundland, in the heart of Crystal Palace’s upmarket Triangle area. The new proposal, from popular restaurant chain Nando's, comes after McDonald's withdrew their plans for a takeaway-only restaurant at the same site, following significant community opposition. McDonald's plans, revealed in January last year, raised concerns among residents and businesses. Many feared that a fast-food outlet would detract from the area’s unique character. That application, which ultimately fell through, came three years after the fast food chain was rejected in its last bid to open up a takeway-only restaurant on the upmarket Croydon high street.
