An adults only playground known for 'booze and ball games' is opening its first London location next year. Roxy Ball Room is set to bring their late-night competitive socialising concept to St Mary Axe, in the City, sometime in Spring 2025.

An exact date has not been confirmed yet but bosses have confirmed the site will have lots of fun activities all under one roof. These will include tech darts, beer pong, duck pin bowling, shooting pods, basketball, karaoke, ice-free curling, ping-pong, tech shuffle, crazy pool and much more.

Guests can also enjoy a long list of cocktails, spirits, and beer whilst jamming out to a soundtrack of indie and rock hits. There will also be some tasty food options such as pizzas, Bratwurst hotdogs, and chicken wings, as well as fries tossed in the signature Roxy BBQ seasoning.

You can go head-to-head with your friends and colleagues

Joel Mitchell, Roxy Leisure’s marketing director said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that Roxy is finally coming to the UK’s capital. We’ve already established ourselves as one of the UKs most popular competitive socialising venues and know the people of London are going to love what we have to offer.

"The Roxy experience is second to none and we’re ready to take this to the next level with our London launch. Expect great games and awesome drinks all to the backdrop of our famous rock ‘n’ indie soundtrack. London, let’s do this!”

This will be the 20th branch under the Roxy Leisure name after launching in Leeds in 2013. Owners Matt and Ben Jones have since expanded the brand to York, Nottingham, Birmingham, Leicester, Cardiff, Cheltenham and Liverpool.

Shark knocks £400 off 'brilliant' robot vacuum and mop

by
Shark knocks £400 off 'brilliant' robot vacuum and mop

Amazon has slashed the price of a Shark robot vacuum and mop. Originally £899.99, the Shark PowerDetect 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop is now £499.99.

While the white version of the vacuum is an Amazon exclusive, you can also get the black version for £549.99 at Shark. The Shark vacuum and mop automatically cleans floors before returning to its base to empty, refill, and clean itself.

There are five deep-cleaning technologies, and the machine detects and reacts to your home. It maps your home to detect and avoid obstacles, and lifts and lowers itself to avoid obstacles and cross thresholds.

Shark PowerDetect 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop
The vacuum charges and empties itself

The Shark vacuum can detect hidden debris, sense floor types, vacuum edges, mop edges, and remove stuck-on stains. On Amazon, it's got 4.6 stars from 11 reviews.

One person said: "I absolutely love this little robot! It's brilliant; it cleans and maps my downstairs area and then goes about its job of vacuuming and mopping every day. I still do a deep clean with my own steam mop each month. We work together now, and it helps me stay on top of keeping the floors clean."

Another wrote "I’ve had two much cheaper robotic cleaners and this by far is the best. With its cleaning, mopping and emptying facilities it makes the task so much easier. Particularly its ability to avoid obstacles takes so much of the faff out of the preparation needed before you can set it going on its rounds.

"Robot vacuums tend to be so much quieter than the traditional vacuum cleaner except for the emptying period which is quite short in comparison. The setting up, mapping and many other tweaking of the settings through the downloaded app can be carried out with ease.

"The cleaning and mopping are very good but will never replace the deep clean needed occasionally in the old-fashioned way i.e. manually. Overall a very expensive machine but so far I have no complaints." There were no negative reviews available on Amazon, but at Shark one person wrote: "Had to send the first one back after three days because it would error and fail on any scheduled cleans. Shark customer service sent a replacement which is now spilling water across the floor and failing to mop. This has all the hallmarks of a product that was rushed to production and isn’t ready for release."

Alternatively, you can try the DREAME L40 Ultra Robot Vacuum Cleaner, which is £819 at Currys. Just like Shark's, it mops and vacuums, and empties itself.

You can buy the Shark PowerDetect 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop from Amazon and Shark. Get the DREAME L40 Ultra Robot Vacuum Cleaner from Currys.

Peckham drug dealer jailed after supplying crack and heroin to Peterborough

by
Peckham drug dealer jailed after supplying crack and heroin to Peterborough

A South London drug dealer who ran a county line into Peterborough has been jailed for more than four years. Henry Mansaray, 28, of Manaton Close in Peckham, was found guilty of being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine after mobile phone evidence showed he was heavily involved in drugs supply across Peterborough.

A mobile phone consistently used to send out bulk messages offering to sell drugs was suspected to be in the control of Mansaray, and later found on him when he was arrested in Fletton, Peterborough, on August 11 2023.

Analysis also showed the handset regularly travelling from Mansaray’s home in South London to Peterborough, with CCTV footage confirming his movements matching that of the phone. Mansaray appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (November 15) where he was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison.

Detective Constable Lloyd Davis, who investigated, said: “Tackling county lines drug dealing is a priority for the force. It involves the exploitation of vulnerable young people and adults, often by violent gang members, to move and sell drugs across the country.

“Even though Mansaray was not found with any drugs on him or in his possession, we were able to prove his involvement through attributing a drugs mobile phone line directly to him.”

Expert explains why you should never dry clothes on a radiator

by
Expert explains why you should never dry clothes on a radiator

A radiator expert has highlighted the dangers of drying clothes on radiators, especially during periods of dreary weather when outdoor line-drying isn't an option. Nancy Emery at Only Radiators warned that while it may seem like a "quick fix" for anyone without a tumble drier in the cooler months, using radiators to dry wet clothes can cause several potentially 'dangerous' issues.

Emery explained that this method leads to increased condensation and moisture lingering in rooms due to covered radiators restricting airflow, which can result in mould growth. She said: "The problem with drying clothes on radiators is that it leads to higher amounts of condensation due to the lack of airflow from having your radiators covered, which leaves moisture lingering in your rooms, and that's when the issues start to arise."

She further explained that the moisture released into the air can create the perfect conditions for mould, which not only damages the home but can also lead to health problems such as sore throats, coughing, runny noses, irritated skin, and red eyes. In more severe cases, individuals may suffer from flu-like symptoms without realising they have mould-induced aspergillosis in their respiratory system, reports the Express.

Mould can cause cold-like symptoms

Nancy added: "All of that water will then ride along an air current until it sticks to the first cold surface it meets, creating the perfect environment for mould to grow."

Moreover, she cautioned that existing medical conditions could be exacerbated by the presence of mould caused by drying clothes on radiators. She said: "You may also experience a runny nose, irritated skin and red eyes. Worryingly, for those feeling particularly tired with developing flu-like symptoms, it's possible that they could have mould-induced aspergillosis hiding inside their respiratory system and not even know."

Nancy went on to say: "The condensation created by drying your clothes on the radiator, which leads to mould, can also harm your respiratory system. It mainly affects people with pre-existing conditions like asthma due to mould-producing allergens, irritants and toxic substances."

It might be tempting, but there are better ways to dry your clothes

She explained that during the winter months, it's not possible to dry clothes outside, so it's crucial to take steps inside the home to reduce the likelihood of condensation and mould forming. This includes opening windows for ventilation so that air can escape and be replaced by fresh air.

If you have to dry clothes such as jeans on radiators, ensure the radiator is under an open window to prevent mould. The expert added: "Well-maintained and cleaned extractor fans will ventilate a room beautifully. An extractor brings fresh air from outside into an enclosed space, it works like a window to aid circulation. Often found in kitchens and bathrooms, ventilators can be fitted in any room with the help of a professional."

She continued: "A heated towel rail, paired with proper ventilation, is a perfect way to avoid mildew-smelling clothes, asthma risk, and black mould.Plus, they create the bonus of warm towels whenever you want them, perfect for the colder months."

In addition to this, households can also invest in a dehumidifier which helps to remove excess moisture from the air, preventing condensation from settling on cold surfaces. This can also assist in minimising dust particles in the air, contributing to maintaining the cleanliness of the air within your home.
