XL Bully puppies for sale in London for £4,000 as roaring trade sees Gumtree and Freeads littered by breeder adverts

by
XL Bully puppies for sale in London for £4,000 as roaring trade sees Gumtree and Freeads littered by breeder adverts

American Bully XL dogs are being sold as puppies for up to £4,000 in and around London as the controversial dog commands a high price. The breed has been hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons and after a number of deaths and brutal attacks, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a ban is coming in.

Currently it is legal to breed, own and sell the dogs in the UK, but in a statement posted on X on Friday (September 15) the Prime Minister said: "It's clear the American XL Bully dog is a danger to our communities. I've ordered urgent work to define and ban this breed so we can end these violent attacks and keep people safe."

The American Bully XL is the largest variation of the American Bulldog breed, a lineage of dog which includes the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Bulldog and English Bulldog. The dogs have made headlines recently following a series of high-profile attacks, including on a four-year-old boy in Newham, East London.

FA quick search online shows a number of breeders and sellers offering the dogs as puppies in and around the capital. One breeder is charging an eye-watering £4,000 in Waltham Cross. The seller says that price gets you an eight-week old dog from an exclusive bloodline which means you’d be able to breed the dog for a profit yourself - at least that was until the forthcoming ban was announced today.

There is also an eight-week chocolate-coloured XL Bully being sold for £1,500 in Camden. You can also get puppies in Hillingdon and Hounslow for around £1,000. The Hounslow vendor is selling a six-week old dog which they need to sell ASAP, and are happy to negotiate on the price.

The Hillingdon dog however is a shade of lilac that the seller says loves playing in the pool, and is wormed and microchipped. The price for a puppy that isn't pure-bred drops dramatically, with an XL Bully crossed with a Staffordshire Bull Terrier going for £400.

What to do if a dog bites you

According to the NHS , the first thing you should do is clean the skin around the wound with soap and warm water. If teeth, dirt, or hair have found their way in, try rinsing them out using warm water.

You should also gently squeeze the wound so it bleeds slightly - unless it's already doing so - as this can help minimise the risk of infection. If it’s bleeding, apply pressure using a warm, clean cloth. Once clean, put a dressing on it and take ibuprofen if it's sore.

BBC and This Morning star dies age 35 following brain cancer diagnosis just after giving birth to daughter

The BBC and ITV This Morning star Maddy Anholt has died aged just 35 following a diagnosis of brain cancer, her family have announced.

The TV star had just given birth to her daughter Opal, 1, last year when she was diagnosed by doctors with a 'rare and aggressive form of the disease.

In a statement released this morning on a Gofundme page paying tribute to her, the star's family said she died on Wednesday (September 13) leaving behind Opal and her 'devoted' husband Ben.

In the statement the family said: "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Maddy Anholt, our beloved daughter, sister, twin, friend, wife and mother, who left this world on Wednesday 13th September, aged 35.

"You may know that shortly after the birth of her incredible daughter Opal last year, Maddy was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. She handled the ensuing surgery and treatment with astonishing grace and courage, accompanied every step of the way by her family and devoted husband, Ben.

Maddy was just 35 years old

"She spent her final weeks at her parents’ home, Sunflower House, bathed in love and calm, and with the sounds of nature all around.

"We are overwhelmed with gratitude to the many friends who have upheld us with their love and prayers during this difficult time - as well as the countless nurses, doctors and the NHS as a whole, who treated her with unfailing dignity and compassion.

"In particular we would like to thank the magnificent team at Seaton Hospice at Home, who are the embodiment of empathy, professionalism and love."

The family are now asking those who knew Maddy or enjoyed her work to consider donating to a cause she really supported in Women's Aid. They continued: "You might consider a contribution to Maddy’s favourite charity, Women’s Aid.

"Maddy was a powerful advocate for women’s rights and on publication of her debut book, she was invited to become an Ambassador for Women’s Aid, which she carried out with characteristic energy and humour." You can find Maddy's fundraiser and donate to the charity here.

Having trained at the Academy of Live Recorded Arts alongside the likes of Miranda Hart and Bridget Christie Maddy was a talented performer, comic, and writer.

She was best known for her BBC, ITV, and Channel 4 sitcom and sketch show appearances including The Emily Atack Show, Sunny D, and Mariah: The Diva, the Demons, the Drama. She was also a regular guest on This Morning.

Her parents were children's authors Catherine and Laurence Anholt and she had two siblings, her twin painter Tom Anholt and an older sister who works at the UN.

Using her knack for comedy Maddy performed her self-written, one-woman comedy Diary of a Dating Addict at the Gilded Balloon at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, 2015 and at the Soho Theatre, where she had a full sell-out run.

In 2016 she took another new comedy, Rent Girl to the Edinburgh Fringe. Directed and co-written by Hardeep Singh Kohli.

Full list of London roads set for 20mph limit as TfL plans to slow down drivers

Full list of London roads set for 20mph limit as TfL plans to slow down drivers

Transport for London (TfL) has announced that it plans to introduce a 20mph speed limit on 65 kilometres of roads. The measure will include routes in eight boroughs - Greenwich, Kensington and Chelsea, Lewisham, Southwark, Wandsworth, Merton, Bromley and Lambeth.

Bosses say the measure, to be introduced in stages over the last four months of the year, will ‘save lives’ and tackle speeding . They add that, by 2024, a further 140km of roads controlled by the authority, including 37 town centre locations, will have the same restriction on speed.

Officials say that data collected between May 1, 2020, and June 20, 2022, 'when compared to a similar seasonally matched period before lower speed limits were implemented', shows the number of collisions fell by 25 per cent (from 405 to 304). In addition, incidents resulting in death or serious injury reportedly fell by 24 per cent (from 94 to 71).

A road sign marks the entrance to the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in London
Those against the imposition of 20mph speed limits have compared to move to London's ultra low emission zone (ULEZ), which was expanded by Sadiq Khan in August

A spokesperson for the authority said: “The reduction in collisions resulting in death or serious injury on roads within the central London Congestion Charging Zone should be seen in the context of a London-wide reduction in collisions resulting in death or serious injury of around 10 per cent over the same period.

"This demonstrates that reducing speeds leads to greater benefits than on roads where speeds have not been reduced.”

Full list of roads with new 20mph limit

TfL says a 20mph limit will be introduced on sections of the following roads:

  • A232: West Wickham High Street (scheme to go live in September)

  • A205: St John Wilson Street, Well Hall Road (scheme to go live in October)

  • A4: Cromwell Road, Brompton Road (scheme to go live in October)

  • A3220: Pembroke Road, Holland Road, Warwick Road, Redcliffe Gardens (scheme to go live in October)

  • A20: Eltham Road, Lee High Road, Lewisham Way (scheme to go live in November)

  • A202: Queens Road, Peckham High Street, Camberwell Church Street, Camberwell New Road (scheme to go live in December)

  • A2: New Cross Road, Old Kent Road (scheme to go live in December)

  • A201: New Kent Road (scheme to go live in December)

Lilli Matson, TfL's Chief Safety, Health and Environment Officer said: "We are determined to eliminate deaths and serious injuries from London's roads in line with our Vision Zero goal. Speed continues to be a factor in almost half of fatal collisions in London and the devastating consequences for the families, friends and communities impacted by these casualties is immense.

“We’re committed to eliminating unsafe speeds across London and our new campaign aims to challenge drivers' perception of what counts as speeding, as even driving slightly over the speed limit can still has tragic consequences. These new 20mph speed limits will also not only save lives, but make it easier and safer for people to walk, cycle and use public transport, creating a safer, greener London for everyone.”

This comes as the First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, has faced backlash after unveiling controversial plans to introduce the limit in all built up areas in the country this month. Local Conservatives, reports the Daily Mail, have made comparisons to London's ultra low emission zone (ULEZ), which was expanded by Labour's Mayor in the capital, Sadiq Khan, on August 29.

The Conservatives' candidate for London's mayoralty, Susan Hall AM, is against 20mph zones in TfL main roads like Finchley Road. But, she is not opposed to the limit in residential areas, such as near schools and hospitals.

Ms Hall told MyLondon: "While Sadiq Khan interferes with our roads and slows vital routes like Finchley Road to a crawl, he is failing to deliver for Londoners on the bread-and-butter issues that matter to them - making our streets safer and putting more money back in people's pockets. London's workers and families deserve better and as Mayor I will stand up for them."

All 400 Wilko stores to close by early October including 17 in London

by
All 400 Wilko stores to close by early October including 17 in London

Every Wilko store across the UK will have closed it's doors by early October, the GMB Union has said.

A rescue deal for the family-owned chain has fallen through, meaning redundancies are likely for 12,500 staff. It's thought no bidders want to keep running the stores under Wilko's name, but some would be keen to rebrand.

Among these was HMW owner Doug Putnam, who's said to have wanted to keep 300 stores open, but his bid fell through amid rising running costs.

READ MORE: Disney Plus customers can watch for just £1.99 thanks to huge price slash - but it's only for a limited time

In a statement to The Sun newspaper, Mr Putman said: “It is with great disappointment that we can no longer continue in the purchase process for Wilko having worked with administrators and suppliers over several weeks to seek a viable way to rescue it as a going concern.”

Wilko, which employed around 12,500 staff, had already announced a £13 million deal to sell 51 shops to B&M, although the rival discounter has not agreed to take on Wilko workers as part of the deal.

The chain announced in August that it had fallen into administration.

Nadine Houghton from the GMB Union said: "Wilko was far more than a brand, a retailer or the products it sold, it was the thousands of loyal team members now facing an uncertain future. "Wilko may have ceased genuinely being a family brand many years ago, but the staff kept the real family ethos of Wilko alive until the very end. It is the family that Wilko colleagues made for themselves that will be missed the most."

Carol Vorderman fans convinced she’s ‘aging in reverse’ in skin tight leopard suit with leather harness

Carol Vorderman fans convinced she’s ‘aging in reverse’ in skin tight leopard suit with leather harness

Carol Vorderman has stunned fans once again in a new Instagram post. The former Countdown presenter recently appeared on the cover of Times Magazine, and has been sharing outtakes from her photoshoot.

She wrote: " @thetimesmagazine glam. Before and after...ha." In the accompanying video, Carol waved a makeup brush at the camera as she transformed from her pre-glam self.

After the transition, Carol donned a skin-tight leopard print catsuit accessorized with a leather harness around her waist. She smiled at the camera as she showed followers the look.

They couldn't get enough and rushed to the comments to compliment Carol. "Bloody gorgeous," one fan wrote as another commented "I've said this too often, I know, but how does Carol look better now than 30 years ago? Time machine!?"

Another person added "I’ve been a big fan of Carol ever since her first appearance on Countdown. She was gorgeous then and she’s still gorgeous now," as others called the star "absolutely beautiful".

While Carol didn't say where her catsuit was from, there are plenty of options online. Matches Fashion sells a suit identical to Carol's for £150.

The jersey suit is skin-tight and features thumbhole sleeves and a high neck. Light In The Box also has a similar catsuit for a fraction of the price at £30.

While theirs lacks the thumbholes and the stirrups, it does have 4.8 stars from reviews. One person wrote "This actually looks better than in the image, a pleasant surprise. Good fit, the size chart seems to be correct. A very nice suit." The lowest rating gave three stars, but left no comment.

You can buy Carol's leopard catsuit from Matches Fashion or Light In The Box.
