Virgin Media broadband and Sky deal with free 4K TV or £250 bill credit runs out in days

by
Virgin Media broadband and Sky deal with free 4K TV or £250 bill credit runs out in days

Upgrading you TV can be a stressful experience, there is just so much choice down at your nearest John Lewis, Currys or Richer Sounds that it can be tricky to know where even to begin. A new Virgin Media deal can make it a pain free experience though because you can get a £349 LG device for free if you select a specific plan - but you have just a few days left to make the most of the offer.

It's the latest deal from the provider as it hands out the 4K 43-inch LG model to anyone that picks a Bigger Movies Combo Bundle, Bigger Sports HD Combo Bundle, Biggest TV Bundle or the Mega Volt Bundle - and those not interested can choose £250 in bill credit.

Yes, the broadband tech retailer will put the money towards your existing new bill, which means you won't pay a single penny for your new contract in the first couple of months. Launched last week the deal is still available for a few more days, finishing on Wednesday, February 14, so you have to be quick, Mirror Online reports.

Virgin Media TV plans included in the huge freebie deal start from £65 a month, and users are locked into a pretty hefty 18-month contract. Its plans are known for offering perks from Sky for a slightly cheaper price as Virgin Media customers can get Sky Sports HD and Sky Cinema HD included on plans, one reason why we recommend the brand.

Going up against rivals Sky and BT, handing out freebies has become a well-known trial for the brand and they seem to fall a few times each year, making regular TV contracts feel better value for money. Another popular offer at Virgin Media is it's free Xbox Series S or X deals, which you can get for free on particular plans - it's not on right now but you may want to keep an eye out.

As we break down all the deals it's available below, on a deal which is very rarely offered.

TfL boss warns Overground passengers to 'allow extra time' during February and March strikes

by
TfL boss warns Overground passengers to 'allow extra time' during February and March strikes

London Overground passengers are being warned disruption to services during strike days in February and March means they'll need to check before attempting to travel and 'allow extra time' for their journeys. More than 300 members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union will walk out from Overground services for 48 hours on Monday, February 19 and Tuesday, February 20 and again on Monday, March 4 and Tuesday, March 5 in a dispute over pay.

The workers are employed by Arriva Rail London and operate London Overground on behalf of Transport for London (TfL). No service is expected before 8am or after 6pm on some routes on strike days, with those that do operate expected to be busier than normal.

Trish Ashton, TfL's director of rail and sponsored services, said: "Strikes are never good news for our customers, and we urge the RMT and Arriva Rail London to work together to try to come to a resolution. Customers planning to use London Overground services are urged to check before they travel, allow extra time for their journeys, and check the TfL website or the TfL Go app for the latest travel information."

The RMT said Arriva Rail London has offered a below-inflation pay offer. These strikes come after RMT members of the London Underground were due to stage walk outs last month which were cancelled. Union members made last minute progress with TfL and the strike was called off.

What has been said about the strikes?

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: "London Overground workers do an important job delivering services for TfL and supporting passengers on journeys throughout London. Our members are furious that they have been given a below inflation pay offer and want to see an improvement that represents the value they bring to the company.

"If this dispute cannot be resolved then RMT is more than prepared for a sustained period of industrial action to get London Overground workers the pay rise they deserve."

Philips 'best electric shaver' shoppers have used £140 off in sale - cheaper than January sales

by
Philips 'best electric shaver' shoppers have used £140 off in sale - cheaper than January sales

The Range, Amazon and Argos have cut the prices on their Philips' 'wet and dry' electric shaver that some shoppers are saying gives them a 'nice close shave'. The Philips Shaver Series 5000 has £140 off.

The Series 5000 is currently cheapest at The Range at £69.99. This is even better than the January Sales, where it was cheaper than everywhere but Boots (who sold it for £59.99 - now charging £149.99). On Amazon, it cost £84.99 in the sales, but is now discounted to £99.99, though you do get a charging case. It's currently also available on Argos (£75) and direct through Philips (£89.99).

Boasting the same amount of blades as the more expensive Series 7000, they've ranked this lower on their "Anti-Friction" and "Close Shave" ratings. It also has 50-60 minute battery life, putting it between the Series 7000 and Series 8000.

The shaver sits at a 4.4 from 448 reviews on Amazon, 4.2 out of 133 reviews on Boots, 4.4 out of 346 reviews on Argos and 4.3 out of 626 reviews on Philips.

The Philips Series 5000 shaver with charging stand and travel case
The Philips Series 5000 shaver is the only one of the bunch more expensive at Amazon - with Boots coming out on top, minus the travel case and charging stand

One person wrote: "Never had such a great shaver, close every time, you get what you pay for I think that this is worth every penny. Joy to use and hold. Easy to clean and maintain, no downside at all. Very pleased with it." Another added: "To be totally honest this is the best electric razor I’ve ever used. It’s comfortable to hold shaves really close and easy to clean. 5/5 in my books !"

A less pleased person added: "I had hoped to get a good shave however because my whiskers are so strong having been shaving since the age of 16 now 87 years it does clean the surfaced of my face but does not give a smooth shave." Another said: "Nice to handle, but no difference in the quality of the shave compared to my older version."

Elsewhere, Braun have cut their prices on a range of electric shavers including half off their Series 3. The Series 3 ProSkin is designed to be durable and waterproof, using three independent razors to mould around the contours of your face.

Currently it's half off, down from its original price of £109.99 to £54.99 on Amazon. This makes it cheaper than the same product at Boots (£119.99). The razor promises 45 minutes of shaving with no performance loss, and has a Quick Charge option to give you one shave. The Braun razor is very strongly reviewed, at 4.4 out of 6,044 ratings on Amazon, 4.5 out of 160 reviews on Currys, and 4.2 out of 372 reviews on Boots. The Philips razor sits at a 4.3 out of 110 ratings on Amazon, 4.7 out of 109 reviews on Philips and 4.8 out of 104 reviews on Very.

Series 5000 is currently cheapest at The Range at £69.99. You can also buy it at Boots (£149.99), Amazon (£99.99), Argos (£75) and direct through Philips (£89.99).

David and Victoria Beckham 'forget' Spice Girls in Uber Eats Super Bowl advert

by
David and Victoria Beckham 'forget' Spice Girls in Uber Eats Super Bowl advert

David and Victoria Beckham cheekily teased about Spice Girls in their new Uber Eats Super Bowl advert. The funny ad, also including Jennifer Aniston, will be showcased during the Super Bowl LVIII, a match between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

The star-packed advert is designed to remind footy fans to use Uber Eats during the game. In it, Jennifer receives an Uber Eats delivery full of blooms on a movie set. She thanks her helper who remarks: "I didn't know you could get all this stuff on Uber Eats. I need to remember that."

Responding, Jennifer explains: "Well, you know what they say. In order to remember something, you've got to forget something else. Make a little room." Following this, the ad amusingly shows various celebs, including the Beckhams, obliviously forgetting things.

David teases: "Remember when you used to be a Pepper Lady?" Victoria playfully answers back: "Wasn't it the Cinnamon Sisters?" Not stopping there, David adds: "Basil Babes?" And Victoria replies: "Paprika Girls?" Wrapping up the joke, David bursts out laughing shouting: "No... that's absurd."

READ MORE: What Spice Girls look like then and now as two members now in their 50s

The footage then shows Jennifer being greeted by her Friends co-star David Schwimmer, whom she seems to momentarily forget. The clip concludes with global music icon Usher joking: "I hope I get to play a half time show some day, man." Interestingly, this weekend will see the 45 year old singer take centre stage at the half-time show.

It looks like Taylor Swift might steal the spotlight this weekend though. She's expected to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Every time Swift attends a match featuring the 34 year old sports star, it creates a big stir. Cameras often swing her way as she cheers on Kelce, and sometimes the pop princess even gets more attention than the game itself.

A host of famous faces are set to serenade the Super Bowl crowd on Sunday evening. Andra Day, Post Malone, Reba McEntire, and Tiesto are all lined up to entertain audiences before and after Usher's headline half-time performance.

"So stylish and also very comfortable. Will dress up any outfit"

There has been very little criticism of the product but one person said that the heels started clicking after a few wears: "Pretty shoes but after wearing a few times the heels started clicking when I walk which is really annoying, especially in a quiet office. The fit is good and they are comfortable."

Alternatively, there are the Marvel Triple Strap Mary Jane Block Heels from Office. The shoes are priced at £49.99 and come in red patent, black patent and silver.

They have a 4.2 rating based on 13 reviews. "Perfect shoes, so happy with my purchase, standard fit, super comfortable and look great with lots of different outfit style - will definitely get them in other colours," reacted a customer.

Met Police jobs on offer with £36k salary and you don't need a degree

by
Met Police jobs on offer with £36k salary and you don't need a degree

The Metropolitan Police Service has jobs on offer that start with a £36,000 salary - and you don't need a degree. The three-year apprenticeship programme called the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA), allows those interested in joining the police as an officer a great starting salary and the chance to work towards a fully funded degree in Professional Policing Practice.

It starts with a training period before you are taken out on the streets to get frontline experience from officers bestowing their practical experience to the trainee. Over 2,000 officers have joined the Met’s apprenticeship programme since it launched in January 2021.

The scheme has seen officers go on to pursue specialist careers in the Met such as mounted branch, authorised firearms officer, or even detective.

The apprentice can work towards their degree whilst being paid

The full salary is £36,775, inclusive of benefits and there is a wide age range of those that apply. PC Thompson is in her third and final year of the PCDA route. She previously worked as a restaurant manager before joining the Met initially as a volunteer police officer prior to the PDCA.

She said: “I knew I wanted a degree, and I knew I enjoyed being a police officer – with the apprenticeship route I was able to achieve both. With policing, I found a role that uses a variety of my existing skills and interests. The apprenticeship also offers so much opportunity for my future career.”

Tom Naughton, the Met’s Head of Initial Recruit Training, said: “The Met’s apprenticeship programme is already a great success with many officers graduating this year.

“Officers have produced really impressive research as part of their degrees, paralleled with great operational work, working alongside communities to keep Londoners safe.

“Those on the apprenticeship come from a range of professional and personal backgrounds. They bring a diversity of experience that is crucial for the Met to deliver our A New Met for London plan to build more trust with our communities, drive down crime and pursue high standards.

“I’d encourage anyone considering becoming a police officer to consider the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship.”

Live M25 traffic updates as motorway blocked in both directions after 'van and car' horror crash

A horror crash on the M25 has blocked the motorway in both directions as drivers have been warned to avoid the area. Accident investigation work is underway after the crash is believed to have involved a car and a van and has been described by police as a 'serious road traffic collison.'

Traffic site Inrix said: "M25 in both directions closed, slow traffic due to accident investigation work between J21A A405 North Orbital Road (St Albans) and J22 A1081 (St Albans / London Colney).

"A van and a car collided Anticlockwise just before 04:00 but both sides are closed and are likely to stay shut until lunchtime at least.

"Diversion - using the A414 past Saint Albans and London Colney with Anticlockwise following the hollow square symbols and Clockwise following the hollow triangle symbols which is very slow."

Hertfordshire Police told The Metro : ‘The M25 is currently closed between junctions 22 ( London Colney) and 21A (North Orbital Road/St Albans). ‘This is while emergency services deal with a serious road traffic collision. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.’
