XL Bully attack in South London park sparks hunt for grey coloured dog and owner after man mauled

XL Bully attack in South London park sparks hunt for grey coloured dog and owner after man mauled

A man in South London is the latest victim of an XL Bully attack with police now hunting the dog and its owner. The victim, in his 40s, was rushed to hospital with arm injuries after he was mauled by the dog in Pasley Park in Walworth, Southwark, on Friday evening (September 22).

The owner fled the scene with the grey-coloured dog before police arrived. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing after officers were called to the park by the London Ambulance Service just after 6pm, police say.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Police were called by LAS at 18:07hrs on Friday, 22 September to Pasley Park SE17 after a man, aged in his 40s, was bitten by a dog. He was taken to hospital with injuries to his arm.

"The owner of the dog left the scene with the dog prior to police arrival. The dog is believed to be a grey-coloured XL Bully. There have been no arrests; enquiries are ongoing."

The mauling is thought to be the latest by the XL bully breed, which is soon to be added to the Dangerous Dogs Act list following a spate of violent and sometimes fatal attacks. The dogs have been involved in a number of incidents around the UK, including in London where four-year-old Nehal Islam underwent surgery after an attack at a park in Newham.

Earlier this month 11-year-old Ana Paun was savagely attacked by an XL bully on a Birmingham street, while just a few days later Ian Price, 52, was killed defending his mother from a pair of the dogs who stormed into her garden in Staffordshire.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he would ban the breed by the end of the year, as it was clear the incidents were not due to a "handful of badly trained dogs" but part of a "pattern of behaviour". But, owners will be allowed to keep registered dogs if they have them neutered and muzzle them in public, leading some experts to warn the measure does not go far enough.

happen again."

New photos of Sara Sharif show what 10-year-old looked like in weeks before death

Police investigating the death of 10-year-old Sara Sharif have released a new set of pictures they believe better illustrates how Sara looked in the weeks leading up to her death when she was found at her home south of London in Woking on August 10.

Officers investigating the death are trying to build a picture of her life and hope the new images will prompt more members of the public to come forward with information about Sara and her family.

Since her death police have been engaging with community leaders and distributing leaflets in the Woking area asking for help from the community with the case.

Another image has been released showing Sara playing

The appeals have also been translated into Urdu both written and verbally in video format to reach residents in the area who speak it as a first language.

Officers fluent in Urdu are also supporting the investigation to translate material and information provided to them by members of the public.

Despite a number of enquiries being generated though, police say they still need to hear from more people and say any information no matter how insignificant could help them piece together more of Sara's life and help the case.

Detective Superintendent Mark Chapman, from the Surrey Police and Sussex Police Major Crime Team, said: “We have released these new images this week in the hope that it will prompt more people who knew Sara and her family to come forward.

“We are grateful to everyone who has already contacted us, and I would like to stress that any information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, is reviewed by the investigation team and further enquiries carried out if appropriate. I would urge anyone who may have information and hasn’t yet come forward to reach out to us.

“There are a number of ways you can do this - you can report information via our portal, which is in both English and Urdu, you can call 101 if you would prefer to speak on the phone, or if you would like to remain anonymous, call the independent charity Crimestoppers.”

To report information, you can visit Surrey police's online portal or report information in Urdu at the translated portal. To report information anonymously, call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Family furious as Tesco Meal Deal containing plastic shard almost chokes disabled girl then mum has seizure due to stress

Family furious as Tesco Meal Deal containing plastic shard almost chokes disabled girl then mum has seizure due to stress

A family are furious with Tesco as they found a large shard of hard plastic in the Meal Deal pasta that they bought for their disabled daughter. When they went back into the store to talk to them about the problem the stress of the whole situation at the lack of help they could provide caused the mother to have three seizures.

The family have said since that Tesco has shown a distinct lack of care and are 'disappointed' with their responses.

On September 12, Mike Packwood, 51, bought his daughter a Tesco Cheese and Tomato Pasta pot from the meal deal section at Tesco Extra, Cardington Road, Bedford. His daughter has long-term special educational needs and disabilities and thus enjoys the same meal every time. Halfway through the daughter's meal she became very distressed and removed what turned out to be a large piece of hard plastic from her mouth.

The family returned to the shop to discuss the incident with the staff where one advised that they should wait and see if she becomes ill. Eventually, they managed to speak with the acting store manager who shared their surprise at the incident but did nothing else whilst another staff member filled out relevant forms.

As a result of the stress, the mother of the daughter, who was also in attendance, collapsed and had three seizures being on the floor for what Mr Packwood said was around 15 minutes. The family eventually left and waited for a response from Tesco.

On 18 September 2023, the family received a call from Tesco representatives who said they would not remove any meal deals from Tesco shelves and would treat this as a one-time incident. The representative advised the family that it would take four weeks to investigate the fault and gave an email address to reach a department that might refund and/or compensate them. The representative had no knowledge of the mother's seizures and is alleged to have shown no concern for the family other than asking how the daughter was.

The family told MyLondon: "It's quite frightening." They continued: "It took us all weekend to really just get over it. We kind of went through a shock phase and then went through a couple of days of worrying about every little thing she did and checking on it and he was alright. Because we didn't know if she'd eaten something in smaller fragments, what kind of reaction she would have to it, whether it'd be sudden in her sleep, or whether we'd have time to get her checked out."

The supermarket said it would take four weeks to look into the incident and would not call back any of their products

The family added: "In her eyes [the daughter] It's quite traumatic because she hasn't got the understanding there for those sort of things. It's a meal that comes from Tesco of all places, you tend to put a lot of trust in them that it's all gonna be safe and Okay."

The family have since sought legal advice on how to deal with the problem as they are unsatisfied with the response they have received from the major supermarket and the complaints process itself. The family found it very difficult to raise their concerns as they say the company has no internal complaints procedure for customers to follow.

MyLondon has tried the same avenues and can only find a customer service number, not a direct complaints line. The company advises on their site that if you want to escalate the problem you should do so with an Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme, however, state they are not part of one.

They say they have seen other articles in the press where people have found stuff in their food from Tesco and want more answers on how this happened. Tesco was contacted for a response. A spokesperson for Tesco said: “We are sorry to hear about this. We have very high standards for the food we put on our shelves and have asked our supplier to investigate.”

First photos from inside Kilburn flat fire as mum grabbed her kids and fled burning building

First photos from inside Kilburn flat fire as mum grabbed her kids and fled burning building

First photos have emerged of the aftermath of a Kilburn flat fire which saw flames out of control on the 13th floor of a high-rise tower. The major blaze caused smoke to billow out of the window yesterday (September 18) as 60 firefighters tackled the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but the Mirror understands that it began in the kitchen as loud pops and explosions were heard by those near to the blaze. One woman who lives in the block of flats said that she grabbed her kids and fled the building before being left stranded in the cold.

Pictures taken at the scene this morning show the messy aftermath, with the floors covered in puddles and soot. Litter, boxes and pieces of clothing were strewn across the floor inside the home, where some of the furniture remained intact.

A charred headboard was propped up in the hallway outside, while a notice pinned to the front of the flat door reads: "The gas equipment must NOT be used. It is an offence to continue to use an unsafe appliance or installation until it has been repaired and tested by a 'Gas Safe' registered installer."

Sanja, 42, lives with her two children on the 7th floor of the tower block. She told the Mirror: "I was at home when I got a message from someone saying 'are you okay? There's a fire in your block.' I grabbed my kids and just ran away. I don't even know if I locked the door.

"We were left waiting in a nearby McDonald's until 11pm, and heard nothing at all from the council. We left without any jackets so it was freezing cold outside. In the end we stayed at a friend's, but I couldn't sleep all night. My daughter is also really anxious."

Footage was shared widely on social media showing smoke billowing out of the building, and a fire raging on one of the balconies. Tulip Siddiq, Labour MP for Hampstead and Kilburn, said her thoughts are with all the residents affected.

She tweeted: "Really worrying fire in Kilburn tonight. I hope everyone is ok and my thoughts are with all those affected. I’m in touch with the Council and emergency services and will do everything I can to support the residents."

In a statement, LFB said: "Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a flat fire on Kilburn Square in Kilburn. A flat on the 13th floor of a 17 storey building was completely destroyed. Thankfully, no injuries are reported. It was a very visible fire and the Brigade's 999 Control room received 78 calls alerting them to the fire.

"The Brigade was called at 1843 and was under control by 2009. Fire crews from Kentish Town, Kensington, Park Royal, Hendon, Chelsea, Euston and Soho fire stations were in attendance. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Met police."

One of the best airport restaurants in the world is in London and it is... a Wetherspoons

by
One of the best airport restaurants in the world is in London and it is... a Wetherspoons

A London Airport has had one of its restaurants named among the 10 best you'll find at any airport in the world in a new survey based on the average reviews received by every international airport in the world.

You may be surprised to read though that neither Heathrow nor Gatwick were the lone London travel hub to make it into the list, which was put together using research conducted by travel experts at The Family Vacation Guide.

Using the average rating received by Airport restaurants across Google, TripAdvisor, and Yelp, they were able to create an average score out of five for every eatery, with just one restaurant at North London's Stansted Airport making the cut.

READ MORE: The 'best' London pub in a Grade II listed building loved by locals for 'reasonable prices' is being sold for £1.5 million

The Windmill is the eighth highest rated airport restaurant in the world

According to the data with an average score of four out of five across all reviews, The Windmill at Stansted Airport is the eighth best airport restaurant you can eat at in the entire world.

A traditional airport gastropub, it may come as a shock for you to find out that The Windmill is actually a JD Wetherspoon pub, though its layout and impressive design and decoration certainly set it apart from your local 'Spoons boozer.

The pub's name harks back to the windmills once common across the local area, with this reflected in the design which sees a huge windmill tower placed at the centre of the restaurant, with a ground floor seating area and more places to sit on a mezzanine level around the edges of the vast room.

The pub has a bit more to it than your usual 'Spoon's

A theme throughout reviews of the pub is the greeting service by staff who make sure you find a seat and serve you at the table.

One reviewer wrote on TripAdvisor: "One of the best Wetherspoons and without doubt the best café bar in Stansted Airport. Food and drink is good certainly good value but what makes it the best spot before boarding is the staff. Helpful, fun and genuinely kind. Brilliant place for a pre-flight bite!"

An airport pub breakfast with a pint before a summer holiday has become something of a tradition for British holidaymakers so this may well be the best place you can go to get your vacation started.
