Amazon knocks £40 off panini press that promises to ‘save 86% on energy bills’

Amazon knocks £40 off panini press that promises to ‘save 86% on energy bills’

A Salter panini press and grill is currently discounted on Amazon. Originally £49.99, the grill has had 60 per cent knocked off to make it £20.

On Argos, the same grill costs £35, while at Currys it's £25.99. The Salter grill and panini press allows customers to cook with little to no oil, according to the manufacturer.

It can be used as both an electric grill and a panini maker. It's got a floating hinge that adjusts depending on the contents and uses an integrated oil channel to remove excess oils and fats from the non-stick surfaces.

Salter also claims the grill uses 86 per cent less energy compared to cooking on a traditional electric hob. The grill has 4.3 stars out of five on Amazon from more than 1,500 reviews.

One person said: "Initially bought this to make toasted panini with. However, I’ve used it for fish and steak and the results have been very impressive."

The panini maker doubles as a grill

Another wrote "Love this! I bought this for my sons to make their own toasties. As it's safe using the large handle. The toastie are amazing. No need [to clean] afterwards. Great! Better than any other toastie maker iv had. I highly recommend it."

"Love the panini maker," a third reviewer wrote. " It's easy to use and easy to clean. Heats up quickly and toasts quickly and evenly. My daughter was impressed with it so I bought her one too and she loves it."

One person added: "This is a great little machine. Easy to use, very easy to clean and much better results than most major sandwich machine brand's products. This makes great sandwiches with most kinds of bread and doesn't burn the edges. You can also use it for many different vegetables and some meats and fish. Bargain!"

However, one less than impressed customer said: "First time used I had no complaints. But after the first clean everything sticks to it. Can't cook a toastie, chicken, or burger without losing half of it to the grill. I have tried applying a bit of butter on bread or fry light to stop the issue but no luck. When cleaned I only use a soft sponge. It's only been used a couple dozen times since I purchased it a few months ago. Sad to say it will be going in the bin."

You can buy the Salter grill and panini press from Amazon for £20, from Argos for £35, and from Currys for £25.99.

M&S unveil £99 ‘coat of the season’ but shoppers are distracted by model Sienna Miller: 'She is the moment'

Marks and Spencer have unveiled their new autumn collection and it features a coat they've described as 'coat of the season'. The collection is in collaboration with model and actress Sienna Miller.

Sharing photos of the coat on their Instagram, M&S wrote: "We’re calling it now. This is the coat of the season! And it’s set to be a sell-out."

The Checked Relaxed Longline Coat with Wool is the 'coat of the season' in question. The pink checked coat is made from brushed fabric and wool, with a relaxed fit for a roomy fit.

The coat is part of M&S' autumn collection, which is represented by Sienna Miller. She modelled it on the official M&S Instagram along with the new pointed wedge boots, which cost £79.

The black leather boots, which also come in cream and suede, feature high wedge heels and Insolia technology meant to reduce pressure on your feet. They also come with antibacterial padding.

Sienna also paired the look with M&S' new leather gloves, which are lined and available in three neutral colours. She rounded off the look with square sunglasses, which come in both black and brown.

While the collection has yet to garner any reviews, the Instagram comments were full of compliments. "Just tried it on in XL and it’s amazing," one person wrote as another added "This coat is beautiful."

Others commented "this coat looks so good", "need this coat", and "This coat is going to be EVERYWHERE this winter." About Sienna, another fan said "Yeah, she’s a moment.

"Going to try this on ASAP." However, not everyone loved the chequered pattern as one person wrote "It reminds me of coats old ladies used to wear in the 1970s."

You can buy the Checked Relaxed Longline Coat with Wool, the black leather boots - and the cream and suede versions - along with the rest of the new autumn collection from Marks and Spencer.

London Harley Street doctor who forged patient's signature on treatment form blames 'bullying' ex-business partner for lying to ...

A Mayfair cosmetic surgeon has been suspended for two months after forging a patient’s signature on a treatment form and lying when they discovered the doctor had let her business partner take over halfway through a procedure. The watchdog for medical practitioners found Dr Terry Loong’s actions in April 2020 amounted to “serious misconduct” and suspended her from the register on July 27 this year.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service pored over private WhatsApp messages, medical records and statements and found Dr Loong acted dishonestly when she forged Patient A’s signature on a consent form on April 9, 2020, and then lied to the client by saying she had carried out her entire treatment, and falsified medical notes to that effect.

Dr Loong, an aesthetic and hormone doctor who graduated from King's College London and ran Dr Terry Clinic with her business partner, in North Audley Street, Mayfair, at the time, had referred the incident to the watchdog herself and taken ‘remedial’ steps like leaving the clinic and apologising to Patient A. However the tribunal decided het fitness to practise was impaired.

READ MORE: The London neighbourhood in the shadow of King's Cross and Euston stations where fiercely proud locals fear being priced out

A screen grab of North Audley Street in well-to-do Mayfair
The clinic was located on North Audley Street in well-to-do Mayfair

Dr Loong, who now runs a new clinic in Harley Street independent of her ex-business partner, who is named as Ms B in reports, claimed in mitigation that she was “bullied” by her into forging Patient A’s signature on the written consent form after carrying out cryotherapy - using extreme cold to destroy abnormal tissue or cancer cells - at the client’s home.

Two weeks later, Dr Loong gave Patient A another round of cryotherapy at the London clinic but failed to tell the client Ms B, who was not a doctor according to the tribunal report, had taken over and carried out most of the treatment. When the patient told Dr Loong she knew Ms B had carried out the treatment, the doctor lied to Patient A by saying her business partner had only used a Cyropen to cool the skin at the end of the treatment. She then wrote this down in Patient A’s medical notes despite knowing it was untrue, a report by the tribunal showed.

Representing Dr Loong, Mr Anthony Haycroft said his client accepted her actions undermined trust in the profession but that it was a one-off, unplanned incident that was confined to only one patient. He claimed Patient A had already given verbal consent for the procedure at the time and that his client had been bullied by Ms B who urged her not to return for a signature because it would look unprofessional.

Mr Haycroft claimed his client felt she could not say no to Ms B, whom she was scared of. He said Dr Loong had shown “previous good character” in her 20-year career and felt remorse for her actions. He added: “Ms B had an unpredictable mood and would easily ‘blow up’, as described by Dr Loong, if she was dissatisfied with something. For example, on 9 April 2020, Dr Loong’s view was that ‘we shouldn’t do it … we should get the patient to sign retrospectively’. However, Dr Loong was prevented from going back to the patient ‘as it would look unprofessional’."

He said other evidence backed up claims about Ms B’s character and that his client was doing her best to keep the peace at the time and feel accepted by her business partner. He also claimed Ms B fraudulently called herself a doctor despite failing her undergraduate medical degree. A former director of Edenology, the registered name under which Dr Terry Clinic was listed at Companies House, said Ms B denied failing her exams however they are no longer in contact with her.

Dr Loong stopped working voluntarily for Ms B on August 5, 2020, and referred the matter to the GMC a week later. A complaint was then made against Dr Loong on August 18, 2020. The doctor met Ms B while working together in Bali back in 2017. The pair were said to be close “like sisters” with Ms B lending Dr Loong money during a period of financial hardship, the tribunal was told. But their relationship turned toxic shortly after opening Dr Terry Clinic, which has now closed, in 2019, the tribunal heard.

In its report, the tribunal, which is part of the General Medical Council (GMC), said: “Dr Loong’s actions were fundamentally dishonest and undermined the need for doctors to be transparent and honest with their patients.

“The tribunal found that Dr Loong’s actions brought the profession into disrepute and undermined public trust and confidence in the profession and has breached a fundamental tenet of the profession. Therefore, the tribunal concluded that Dr Loong’s conduct fell so far short of the standards of conduct reasonably to be expected of a doctor as to amount to serious misconduct.”

The report added: “Whilst it is accepted that Dr Loong has worked hard to remediate and has achieved a great deal on her personal journey, the tribunal finds that the second and third limb of the overarching objective [upholding professional standards and trust in the profession] are engaged and would be undermined if the tribunal did not make a finding of impairment in this case to reflect the seriousness of the misconduct."

Dr Loong was suspended on July 27, 2023. Dr Loong was contacted for comment but did not provide one by the time of publishing. Attempts were made to contact Ms B however the BBC's Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) was unable to do so, but asked for details to be passed on by a third party. A Dr Terry Ltd director told the LDRS business partner is believed to have left the country.

Alison Hammond fans say she ‘glows from the inside out’ in NTAs outfit after This Morning snubbed at awards

Alison Hammond stunned fans with her National Television Awards outfit. She shared it to her Instagram, where she has 1.4 million followers.

She said: "I’m ready and off to the @officialntas so excited! Whatever happens if I forget... thank you for getting @thismorning and me into the categories with your votes. You are the best."

This Morning didn't end up winning any awards - they were nominated for Best Daytime Show, which went to The Repair Shop. Similarly, Alison herself lost out on Best TV Presenter to And and Dec.

The defeats didn't stop Alison from looking stunning on the night in a bespoke dress. The black outfit shimmered with sequins, and a tulle overlay acted as a cape-like coverup.

Her fans loved the outfits and rushed to the comments. One person said "you glow from the inside out" as another added "stunning, absolutely beautiful bless your heart".

While her dress was a bespoke creation, there are plenty of similar ones on the market. Boohoo's Damask Sequin Maxi Dress usually retails for £60, but is currently on sale for £48.

It's got long sleeves in place of Alison's cape, and sticks to the black sequin theme perfectly. Boohoo also sells a maxi sequin dress similar to Alison's.

The shiny black number has been discounted from £60 to £35, and boasts flowing long sleeves that mimic a cape. If you'd rather go for the short sleeve and cape combo, there are several options on the market.

Club L London's Exquisite Dress falls to the floor with a flattering side split, and features spaghetti straps and a V neck. And from Goddiva, you can get their Bardot Maxi Dress for £140 or the Sequin and Velvet Dress for £99.

Amazon has a dupe of Alison's cape for £19.99. It has an attractive clasp fastening and heaps of tulle that drape around any dress you throw it over.

You can buy the Damask Sequin Maxi Dress or the maxi sequin dress from Boohoo, Club L London's Exquisite Dress from Club L London, the Bardot Maxi Dress and Sequin and Velvet Dress from Goddiva, and the dupe of Alison's cape from Amazon.

'I bought a handheld hoover on Amazon to see if I could keep on top of my cleaning and it works'

by
'I bought a handheld hoover on Amazon to see if I could keep on top of my cleaning and it works'

As I steadily approach my 30th turn around the sun, I have slowly come to the realisation that my brain just does not work for some things. Bills, talking on the phone, dealing with our landlord, occasionally using my toolbox - all things I do for our household. But getting the hoover out and cleaning? You might as well ask me to split an atom.

We have a huge Henry the Hoover, a powerful vacuum cleaner with benefits like "being able to suck up crumbs" and "having an infinite bag". What lets it down is it screams so loud my cat cowers in the furthest corner of the flat when it gets taken out and weighs as much as my conscience when my cat runs away scared.

So I needed a solution. My friend told me she got much better at cleaning when the hoover was much easier to use, stating that mine is "too much effort". Amazon provided, spitting up the VacLife handheld vacuum cleaner for a respectable £49.99 - down from £62.50. It comes in five colours, allegedly, but this changes the buttons and the shade of the plastic only. I went for the orange.

READ MORE: Cordless vacuum cleaner to rival Shark and Dyson called a 'lifesaver' £100s cheaper in Amazon sale

Getting next day delivery on Amazon Prime (well, I did pick same-day, but it was a Sunday and thus did not work out the way I wanted), my salvation arrived. The cleaner is super-easy to assemble, coming in about three parts at most. It also has a spare filter, which is even easier.

I live with two other boys and a cat, so mess accumulates the moment you turn around. That's why something like this was necessary. My first challenge: Theo, my cat, hit the ball with all his biscuits in it like he was batting in the World Series, leaving a trail of destruction from the kitchen directly into my bedroom.

The cleaner comes in five different colours - that is to say, slightly different shades

Starting in my room, cleaner in hand, I bent over to the mess and launched it. The noise? Not unreasonable. On the scale of mum-hoovering-while-I'm-watching-TV scale of annoyance - from "I'm watching white noise" to "I'm watching Breaking Bad" - I'd say it's on about "I'm watching Friends". That is to say, slightly disruptive.

The cat still doesn't like it that much, but he didn't run away. Instead, he sat on my bed and glared as I sucked up the mess he created with his own paw. The floor was pretty clean afterwards and inspecting the container, it managed to get a fair bit of debris and biscuits - as well as hair. It gets an A on carpeted surfaces.

Next I turned to the hard surfaces. With a sweep, the bigger objects sucked up easily. However, getting into the corners and crevices took a few goes before it was at a reasonable level. I also tried it on my kitchen counter - good for crumbs, but doesn't replace a good old fashioned spray and hand sweep. C+ for hard surfaces.

Finally, my next challenge: the sofas. All three of us are crumby boys and so I was hoping this would be our salvation. The problem with our Henry Hoover is it sucks so hard the cushions end up getting clogged into it. This problem was non-existent with the VacLife - in fact, this was the most pleasurable experience of them all. Nothing clogging it, crumbs all absorbed and done in a fraction of the time otherwise. A+ for the sofa.

This hoover is best for sofas and cars and cleaning up bits and bobs before a "big clean". If you have a mucky household like me, it genuinely is very helpful and allows us to have a much nicer home. With hard surfaces, I recommend a big broom instead.

You can get the VacLife Handheld Vacuum Cleaner on Amazon for £49.99. It's also available from the VacLife website for $59.99 (£47.32) but only ships to America.
