Danny Dyer's marriage to childhood sweetheart Joanne - from proposal to Love Island star daughter

by
Danny Dyer's marriage to childhood sweetheart Joanne - from proposal to Love Island star daughter

For years, Danny Dyer has been a regular fixture on our screens.

From hard-hitting roles in The Football Factory and Mean Machine, to embodying the beloved Mick Carter on BBC's EastEnders, he's tackled quite a range of performances.

Danny, 47, has recently showcased his talents in the fresh flick Marching Powder, but his latest telly gig is getting him to open up about his private life.

In ITV's unique programme, The Assembly, the actor joins other celebs who are interviewed by a panel of autistic, neurodivergent, and learning disabled interviewers, where no question is off the table.

Danny gets personal during the show when discussing his marriage to Joanne Mas. Here's a look at the couple's romance.

Who is Danny's wife?

Danny and Joanne Mas have been together since their early teens, having first met when they were 14 years old.

The couple started dating in 1992, welcoming their first daughter, Dani, in 1996, before briefly breaking up after her birth. Their on-off romance regularly hit the headlines at the time due to numerous cheating allegations, reports OK!

But love triumphed, and they reunited, going on to have their second daughter, Sunnie Jo, in 2007 and son Arty in 2014.

When did Danny and Joanne marry?

Joanne, who worked as a financial advisor before Danny found fame, flipped tradition on its head and proposed to Danny on Valentine's Day 2015, a gutsy gesture that the actor admits he "loved."

Reflecting on her decision to pop the question herself, she revealed to HELLO! Magazine: "I've always wanted to marry Danny, and I decided that if I didn't get things moving, it would never happen. I never wanted to get married when the children were babies because I wanted to let my hair down and enjoy the day."

Danny and Joanne exchanged vows in Hampshire back in September 2016 - a celebration that was exclusively covered by HELLO! Magazine.

On the big day, Danny gushed to the magazine, saying: "To be standing here with the girl I grew up with - looking so beautiful in her wedding dress - that is a lovely thing. Jo is my best girl - the love of my life. Without her, I would be nothing."

Who are Danny's children?

Following in their dad's famous footsteps, Danny and Joanne's brood have also pursued fame. Their eldest daughter, Dani, aged 28, is a star in her own right.

Topping Love Island as the 2018 champion and competing on Survival of the Fittest, Dani has become a well-known influencer, collaborating with brands like InTheStyle. Furthermore, she co-hosts the Live and Let Dyers podcast with her celeb dad.

Dani is mum to son Santiago with ex Sammy Kimmence, as well as daughters Star and Summer with her fiancé, West Ham United footballer Jarrod Bowen - with whom she got engaged in 2024.

Meanwhile, Sunnie, who is now 18, often shares her passion for fashion and travel on social media, much like her older sister, and has begun to accompany her famous father to red carpet events, including his most recent film premieres. She also made an appearance on ITV's Big Star's Little Star in 2015.

Arty, the youngest member of the Dyer family at 10 years old, has already had his first taste of the film industry, starring alongside Danny in the film Marching Powder earlier this year.

Danny has previously opened up about his role as a devoted grandfather to Dani's children, sharing that he takes care of the three little ones when Dani and Jarrod are both away.

During an interview on KISS FM, the EastEnders actor revealed: "Dani's going to Germany, and so I've got all the grandkids. It'll be hard work trying to watch it with three kids under three in my house, a barking bulldog, a ten-year-old son, and a menopausal wife. Wish me luck, everyone, because that's a combination that, init."

The Assembly airs on ITV1 on Saturday, 28 April at 10.05pm

Bungling West London burglar caught after blood smears left at raided homes

by
Bungling West London burglar caught after blood smears left at raided homes

An Ealing burglar who worked with a buddy to raid 13 homes across Surrey and Kent was caught because the bungling duo left DNA, smears of blood, matching footwear patterns and always broke into homes in the same way. Drilon Merkohitoj, from Ealing, and Ervis Vela, from Kent, have now been jailed.

They carried out a spate of burglaries between December 2023 and March 2024, deliberately travelling for miles from where they lived to break into homes and steal thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and valuables. The hunt was on after one of the pair left a snood with DNA on in a recovered vehicle, which led to a further trail of evidence which included blood smears left at crime scenes, CCTV footage, matching footwear patterns, number plate hits, and mobile phone signal tracking.

Cops found the thieves had used the same vehicle. One wore the same distinctive black and red trainers, and they both targeted similar types of homes.

Ervis Vela, 30, mugshot
Ervis Vela, 30, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for his crimes

Their methods were systematic as homes were approached from the back, with attempted first-floor entry where possible. This was followed by forced ground-floor access, often by smashing windows. Once inside, the duo would turn the homes upside as they hunted for loot, typically targeting bedrooms for pricey goods.

They were both sentenced to three years and nine months in prison following a trial a Guildford Crown Court last Thursday, April 17. They each pleaded guilty to two attempted burglaries and seven residential burglaries.

Investigating officer PC Jordan said “This was a highly organised series of offences, carried out by individuals who deliberately travelled to commit burglaries in areas they had no local connection to. Their approach was systematic and consistent. Through that, key patterns emerged throughout the investigation and those details, along with forensic evidence and digital tracking, allowed us to build a compelling case against them.

“The sentencing handed down reflects the scale and seriousness of the offending. We hope this result offers reassurance to the affected communities and serves as a clear message that we will pursue and prosecute those who seek to profit through such intrusive and distressing .”

TfL warns 4 London Underground and Overground stations may be forced to set up queues on April 26

Transport for London (TfL) has announced London Underground and Overground stations may be forced to set up queueing systems on Saturday (April 26). The Victoria and Weaver lines are expected to be extremely busy as boxing fans make their way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Chris Eubank Jr's bout with Conor Benn.

Some 62,000 fans are expected to attend which will have a considerable impact Seven Sisters, Bruce Grove, Silver Street and White Hart Lane from 5pm until the end of the day. TfL is advising people to travel earlier if possible.

Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale, both on the Victoria line, are the recommended stations for spectators to use. They are both a 30-minute walk from the stadium.

Bruce Grove, Silver Street and White Hart Lane are closer to the venue, but their smaller size and less frequent services means attendees may need to wait longer to board a train.

London NHS Trust has paid out more than £5m for misdiagnoses over the past 5 years

by
London NHS Trust has paid out more than £5m for misdiagnoses over the past 5 years

The NHS Trust that runs Northwick Park Hospital has paid out more than £5m over the past five years to patients who have been affected by misdiagnoses, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed.

The figures, which were obtained by specialist solicitors Medical Negligence Assist, show that 16 of the 18 claims made against the Trust between 2019 and 2024 were settled. London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) provides healthcare services to over 1 million people in Northwest London, including patients at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow.

The 16 settled claims resulted in the Trust having to pay out £5.6m - including £4,381,665 in damages paid to patients, on top of £299,290 in NHS legal fees and £987,013 in legal costs claimed by patients. The most common claims related to cancer misdiagnosis, with a total of £375,000 paid out to patients involved in five separate cases.

The cases involved failures to diagnose or delays in diagnosis, which included serious and potentially life-threatening conditions. NHS Resolution, which handles clinical negligence claims for NHS bodies in England, didn’t reveal which of LNWH’s hospitals the settled claims related to but have stated that misdiagnoses account for around one in five of all clinical negligence claims across the country.

A medical negligence solicitor at JF Law – the firm behind Medical Negligence Assist - Gareth Lloyd said: “Misdiagnosis is an all-embracing clinical negligence case type and covers a wide range of clinical situations from the simple diagnosis of a fracture to potentially fatal cancer diagnoses. These cases can be a matter of life and death, and whether someone lives or dies will be determined by the success of the diagnosis.”

Nationally, 8,067 claims regarding misdiagnoses were lodged against NHS Trusts over the same five year period. Of those, 5,677 were settled and resulted in Trusts across the country having to pay out nearly £1bn in total.

NHS Resolution highlights two consistent failings across England as reasons for misdiagnoses, one of which is diagnostic errors - particularly early incorrect diagnoses of soft-tissue injuries - and another is issues with requests for imaging, reporting, interpretation, and follow-up. The British Medical Journal also found that misdiagnosed cancers, strokes, and heart attacks were among the most serious cases, often leading to life-altering consequences or death.

A LNWH spokesperson said: “Although misdiagnosis claims are relatively rare given the number of patients we treat in our hospitals, we review every case and use each as a learning opportunity to improve patient safety. That includes continuing to invest in staff training, robust systems, and clinical processes to support accurate and timely diagnosis.

“In cases where misdiagnosis has been found to cause harm, we work with NHS Resolution to come to an appropriate settlement. We always strive to provide the best possible care and sincerely apologise where that has fallen short to the patient and families concerned.”

by
Enfield woman stabbed to death named and pictured for first time as man, 29, arrested

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Enfield on Saturday evening. The Met Police have now named the woman who was stabbed to death as Pamela Munro.

She was found with a single stab wound in Ayley Croft at around 7pm on April 19. The 45-year-old was treated by police and paramedics but pronounced dead at the scene.

A 29-year-old man was taken into custody in connection to her murder this morning (April 21). He remains in custody, pending ongoing enquiries. Pamela's family is being supported by specialist officers from the Met Police.

Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, who oversees policing for Enfield, said: “Our thoughts are with Pamela’s family and local residents who will have been significantly impacted following the news of her death. I am grateful to local officers and officers from the Specialist Crime Command who have worked tirelessly since Saturday to investigate the circumstances surrounding Pamela’s death as well as support the local community.

“Neighbourhood officers will remain at Ayley Croft throughout the coming days to support the community and help investigators continue enquiries."

Pamela's family are 'devastated'

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, of the Met's Specialist Crime Command, said: “Investigating officers have worked relentlessly across the weekend to investigate the circumstances around Pamela’s death. We continue to support her family who are understandably devastated.

“This morning [Monday, April 21], we arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with Pamela’s death and he remains in custody."

Police are now seeking dashcam footage from cars driving through Ayley Croft between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, April 19. Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting the reference 5741/19APRIL.

Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Statues vandalised during London trans rights protest as police hunt for witnesses

by
Statues vandalised during London trans rights protest as police hunt for witnesses

Seven statues were vandalised in Parliament Square during a trans rights protest yesterday (Saturday, April 19). Police are appealing for witnesses after the statues were defaced with graffiti.

No arrests have been made in connection with the criminal damage. Photos from the protest at Parliament Square showed the phrase "f*g rights" and a heart were daubed on a statue of suffragette Millicent Fawcett, while "trans rights are human rights" was sprayed on the pedestal of a bronze of ex-South African Prime Minister Jan Christian Smuts.

The protests were in response to a landmark Supreme Court ruling that decreed trans women did not legally classify as women in the Equality Act 2010. The use of "men" and "women" in the act was ruled to refer to those born as men and women, and that "sex" was binary. This ruling means that trans women can legally be excluded from women-only spaces like changing rooms, toilets and women's sports in the UK.

Chief Superintendent, Stuart Bell, who led the policing operation for the protest, said: “Criminal damage and vandalism like this has no place on the streets of London and spoils the area for locals and those visiting.

“While the police support the public’s right to protest, criminality like this is senseless and unacceptable. We are pursuing this and will take action against those responsible.

“Working with the Greater London Authority (GLA), plans are underway to remove the graffiti, but this requires specialist equipment, and we are confident this will be done shortly.

“We are keen to speak to those who saw anything on the day and urge anyone with information, pictures or footage to come forward. Please call 101, quoting 01/7396927/25.”

Police are also dealing with a number of complaints from the public about signs and images shared on social media that were reportedly displayed at the protest yesterday.

Officers are investigating, but to date, the images and signs are from historic events, did not take place in London, or do not constitute a criminal offence. Footage of the protest is being reviewed and action will be taken if there are signs displayed that breach of the law, the police said.
