Driver who crashed into barrier after M11 police chase still fighting for his life over 36 hours later

A man involved in a car crash following a police chase along a motorway is still in a life-threatening condition in hospital. The driver crashed into a barrier and left the carriageway on the A406 North Circular Southbound in the Woodford area at about 4.30am on Saturday (June 15) following a police chase which began on the M11 in Essex.

It left the major road closed for about 12 hours, leaving drivers facing huge delays. The incident also had an impact on the M11 Southbound at Junction 4 with the exit slip road to the North Circular Road closed.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 4.31am on Saturday, the Met Police were notified by colleagues from Essex Police that they had initiated a pursuit after a vehicle had failed to stop along the M11, Essex. This then travelled into the Met area.

"Essex officers later confirmed the vehicle had collided with a barrier along the A406, before leaving the carriageway. The driver of that vehicle was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

“No one else was injured. A scene – managed by the Met due to it being in our area – is in place. Met officers were not involved in the pursuit. Enquiries into the incident continue.”

Providing an update on Sunday afternoon (June 16) a Met Police spokesperson said the driver's condition remained the same so he continues to fight for his life in hospital.
