Dagenham crash leaves woman dead and another in hospital

A woman has died following a hit-and-run in Dagenham. Emergency services raced to Ager Avenue to reports of a collision at around 1.15pm today (August 18).

They found a woman in her 50s who was pronounced dead at the scene. A second woman was rushed to hospital but her condition is not known.

Police have spoken with the driver, an 18-year-old man. There have been no arrests.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 1.16pm on Sunday, August 18, to Barrett Court, near Ager Avenue, Dagenham, following reports of a collision involving a car and two pedestrians. Officers attended with LAS, LFB and London's Air Ambulance.

"A woman, aged in her 50s, was treated by paramedics but sadly died at the scene. Police are working to confirm her identity and inform next of kin.

"A second woman, aged in her 40s, was taken to hospital - her condition is not known at this time. Police are speaking to the driver of the car, an 18-year-old man. There have been no arrests at this time.

"Road closures are in place and enquiries are ongoing."

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) was contacted for comment.
