Boots knocks £160 off Oral-B Toothbrush cheaper than Amazon and Argos that makes teeth feel 'great'

Boots knocks £160 off Oral-B Toothbrush cheaper than Amazon and Argos that makes teeth feel 'great'

Boots has knocked £160 off an Oral-B iO4 toothbrush in their January sales, as the whole range of electric toothbrushes are cut across the board. The model - which is highly reviewed on all sites its sold on - currently sits at £80 from its original £240 on Boots.

This is cheaper than Amazon (£89.99), who also sell it with four replacement heads and a travel case, and Argos (£180). Electric toothbrushes are proven to give a better clean than manual as they decrease gum disease and remove more plaque.

They are also good for people with decreased mobility, like those with Parkinson's or arthritis. The iO4 comes with an app to track and improve your brushing habits, with performance reports and goals.

It also has three sensors to make sure you're brushing correctly, with a signal going off for Too Hard, Too Soft and Just Right. There are also four modes including Daily Clean, Sensitive, Super-Sensitive and Whitening. Like most electric toothbrushes, it also boasts a two minute timer.

The iO4 electric toothbrush sits at a 4.6 from 1397 reviews on Boots, 4.3 from 376 reviews on Amazon and 4.7 from 1170 reviews on Argos. One person said: "A very good toothbrush that brings to life the tech side of brushing! Whilst it comes with the expected toothbrush & head, you get a nice travel case for both of those as well.

"Very pleased with the performance itself, definitely leaves my teeth feeling good (and looking good!) whilst having a long charge time, and to my surprise it’s Bluetooth and comes with an app which lets you track how well you brush! Very advanced tech which was unexpected but provides great insights to a daily routine. Overall, love the toothbrush and the extras that come with."

Another added: "Brought for my son as a Christmas gift, he loves it, says it’s the best clean he’s had." A third remarked: "Its very good and my teeth are much heather + if you use the wright toothpaste but this oral B iO is just a bonus."

However, a less pleased person wrote: "I was so pleased with this brush at first. My teeth had never felt so clean and it was very quiet. The problem was that it didn’t hold its charge. After being on charge for 24 hours it would cut out without warning after just being used twice I.e. 4 minutes. I took it back to the shop and they were not at all surprised and gave me my money back!" Another added: "The toothbrush is great. I bought this one for my daughter as I like mine. HOWEVER, if your bathroom doesn't have a shaver outlet you'll need to buy an adapter plug to use in another room. Why on earth does Boots not signpost this and stock adapters next to the toothbrush?? Lazy"

You can pick up a toothbrush charger adapter from Amazon. The retailer has cut prices on a range of their Oral-B products for the sales, including one you can't find on Boots: the Oral-B Smart 7. One of the best reviewed toothbrushes, it is down to £69.99 from the original £94.94.

This one comes with out some of the bells and whistles: the pressure sensor is only for if you're pressing too hard, and there's no app compatibility. However, it has five brushing modes: daily clean, pro clean, sensitive, whitening and gum care. It sits at a 4.6 out of 9,362 reviews.

The Oral-B iO9, meanwhile, is cheaper at Boots than Amazon, coming in at £225 compared to their £235, which is a £275 discount. This model uses AI to track where you brush your teeth to make sure you cover your whole mouth. It also has seven cleaning modes, the highest out of all three models. The brush sits at a 3.3 from two ratings on Amazon and a 3.8 from 63 reviews on Boots.

You can get the Oral-B iO4 at Boots (£80), Amazon (£89.99) and Argos (£180).

Full list of XL Bully laws coming into force explained from muzzles to neutering and what happens if you abandon your dog

Full list of XL Bully laws coming into force explained from muzzles to neutering and what happens if you abandon your dog

A new list of XL Bully laws will come into place in 2024. Owners could face prosecution if they don't follow the new strict regulations on owning the breed, from wearing muzzles in public to when to get the dog neutered.

From today (December 31) it will be illegal to abandon an XL Bully or allow dogs to stray. It will also be illegal to rehome, sell or transfer ownership of XL Bully dogs. If you do not wish to keep your dog, vets may be asked to euthanise the XL Bully dog and the owner can claim £200 per dog.

Rescue and rehoming organisations can claim £100. The euthanasia must be performed by 31 January 2024. Owners must apply for compensation by 15 March 2024.

A shot of an XL Bully
The XL Bully must be neutered as part of the new rules

From today, it will be a criminal offence to breed XL Bully dogs but it will not be an offence to allow a litter of puppies that have already been conceived to be born.

To own an XL Bully legally, you must apply for the Certificate of Exemption by January 31 next year. You have to pay £92.40 fee for each dog you want to keep.

An owner must also be over 16 and have third party public liability insurance against your dog injuring other people. MyLondon has compiled a list of what you need to know following the upcoming ban.

The official government website states: "From 31 December 2023 XL Bully dogs must wear a muzzle and be kept on a lead when in a public place.

"You should start to train your dog to wear a muzzle when in public and to walk on a lead before 31 December 2023. Animal welfare organisations have developed helpful resources and free online learning to support owners to muzzle train their dogs."

You must also arrange to have your XL Bully neutered to help prevent breeding. The website states: "You must arrange to have your XL Bully dog neutered through castration in the case of a male dog, or through spaying in the case of a female dog. If your dog is:

  • less than 1 year old on 31 January 2024, it must be neutered by 31 December 2024
  • older than 1 year old on 31 January 2024, it must be neutered by 30 June 2024

"Defra recommend having your dog neutered as soon as possible so that you meet these deadlines."

Dogs eight weeks or older must be microchipped and registered on a dog database.

In order to get a Certificate of Exemption which is required by January 31 2024 you must follow these steps:

  1. Get third party public liability insurance cover for your dog.

  2. Neuter your dog permanently if it is not already neutered. Read Neutering an XL Bully for when you must have your dog neutered. A vet must confirm if your dog is already neutered.

  3. Pay the £92.40 fee for each dog you want to keep. The fee is not refundable.

  4. Apply for a Certificate of Exemption to keep an XL Bully dog.

For more information on the new laws coming in place, you can head to the official government website here.

The actress, who is best known for playing Demi Miller in EastEnders, welcomed her baby girl with fiancé Nick Jones and took to her Instagram to share a sweet first photo of their daughter.

They posted a series of black and white snaps of their baby as well as photos of the new parents embracing her. Shana also shared a photo of herself with her baby and Nick just moments after giving birth.

Hackney mum, 41, accused of stabbing four-year-old son to death sobs as court hears how he was found with slashed neck in his co...

A mother accused of killing her four-year-old son in a knife attack broke down in tears during her first appearance at the Old Bailey. Keziah Macharia, 41, was charged with the murder Kobi Macharia Dooly after he was found with multiple cuts in his cot December 20, only a few days before Christmas.

On Thursday, friends and family of the boy attended court for a preliminary hearing with Macharia appearing by video link from Bronzefield prison. During the hearing, Judge Lynn Tayton set a timetable for the case with a plea and trial preparation hearing on March 21. A trial before a High Court judge was provisionally scheduled to go on for up to 10 days from next November 4.

Macharia, dressed in a grey sweatshirt, had spoken only to confirm her name and date of birth then sobbed throughout the rest of the hearing as prosecutor Louise Oakley outlined details of the case.

On the evening of December 20, police had been alerted to concerns for Kobi’s welfare by his father, Ben Dooly, who had split up with the defendant about a year before. Within minutes of the 999 call, officers forced their way into the defendant’s home in Hackney, East London, at 10.59pm.

They found Kobi lying in his cot with a number of sharp force injuries. He was taken to the Royal London Hospital where he died at 16 minutes past midnight on December 21. Macharia was arrested at the address in Montague Road and charged with murder on December 22.

While a cause of death has yet to be confirmed, it is believed Kobi died from sharp force injuries, including one to the front of the neck and another to the upper left chest. At the conclusion of the short hearing, Judge Tayton remanded Macharia into custody.

Previously, Kobi’s father Mr Dooly had released a statement saying: “With heavy hearts we bid farewell to Kobi, you will be so dearly missed. The joy and laughter you brought to the world has been taken far too soon. We will be thinking of you day and night for eternity until we meet you again. The family would like to acknowledge and appreciate all messages of support. Please respect our family privacy at this very difficult time.”
