Image
Rap duo Bob Vylan have been banned from the US ahead of a tour later this year after their Glastonbury performance , which is now under criminal investigation as well as the set by Kneecap . US deputy secretary of state Christopher Landau said Bob Vylan are banned from entering America because of "their hateful tirade at Glastonbury." Mr Landau announced the decision to revoke the pair's US visas after one half of the duo, rapper Bobby Vylan chanted "death, death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)" at the festival. The BBC has since expressed its regret at not pulling the live stream of the act's performance during Glastonbury on Saturday, saying the "antisemitic sentiments" expressed by the group were "utterly unacceptable". Providing an update on Monday (June 30) afternoon Avon and Somerset Police said: “Video footage and audio from Bob Vylan and Kneecap’s performances at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday has been reviewed. Disgraced Cold War veteran 89, may die in prison after he is unmasked as paedophile

Image
A former RAF mechanic who worked on Radar systems at the height of the Cold War has been unmasked as a paedophile who terrorised young girls. Geoffrey Nurthen, now aged 89, molested the youngsters when he was in his 30s, in the early 1970s, Croydon Crown Court heard on Wednesday (June 25). Once a respected veteran with 15-years military service at a time when Britain feared a Soviet nuclear attack, Nurthen's four convictions for indecent assault after a trial earlier this year have left his reputation in tatters. This week two victims told how their lives had been ruined, with one attempting suicide. Prosecutor William Tatford KC told the court how Nurthen would attack the girls, telling them 'no, you will enjoy it' when one asked him to stop. Even when his victims complained about the pain, Nurthen responded 'you need to relax, it's not going to hurt'. As adults in the 1990s, the victim-survivors tried to report Nurthen's disgusting behaviour, but he d...

Fury as Hillingdon garden centre closure approved but council leader and cabinet member are no-shows

Image
Hillingdon Council's Cabinet has approved plans to close a "vital" garden centre in West London maintained by volunteers with learning difficulties , however two key decision makers were notably absent. Both the Leader of the Council, Councillor Ian Edwards, and the relevant Cabinet Member, Cllr Eddie Lavery, chose not to attend the meeting on Thursday (June 26) much to the fury of campaigners who attended en masse. Despite a public campaign and petition with thousands of signatures to keep the Rural Activities Garden Centre open, both key decision makers failed to attend the crucial meeting where its closure was ultimately approved. This is the first time this year that Cllr Edwards has not attended a Cabinet meeting. Speaking after the closure was rubber-stamped, Danny Beales, MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip , told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) it was "disrespectful" for the councillors not to attend. He said: "The fact they...

Food reviewer branded 'classless' after 'rude' act at The Ritz

Image
A food reviewer named Toby Inskip, known as Eating with Tod on Instagram , has been criticised for his table manners during a visit to The Ritz. Despite the foodie regularly sharing his unique dining experiences across the country, his latest video from the world-renowned hotel's two-Michelin-star restaurant sparked controversy among his followers. Commenters were less interested in the array of dishes he was served and more focused on his etiquette. They claimed one particular action while enjoying his lavish meal was so "rude" that it detracted from the video, with some stating he showed "no respect" for the "high-class restaurant". The Ritz is a five-star luxury hotel in London, boasting one of the most beautiful dining rooms in the world. Its restaurant, adorned with marble columns, chandeliers, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Green Park, recently earned its second Michelin star , which prompted Tod to visit. During his trip, Tod indul...

King Charles knew the Queen had died after hearing just two heartbreaking words

Image
The passing of Queen Elizabeth marked the end of a significant era. After reigning for 70 years, the UK bid farewell to one of its most beloved public figures when she passed away at the age of 96. The new King was faced with the dual challenge of mourning his mother and immediately assuming the role he had been preparing for all his life. On the morning of 8 September 2022, King Charles, then Prince of Wales, was summoned to Balmoral and informed that his mother's death was imminent. He and his sister, the widely admired Anne, Princess Royal, alternated in keeping vigil by their mother's bedside, as revealed in a new documentary. The Channel 5 documentary, Birkhall: The King's Secret Sanctuary, delves into the poignant moment when Charles ascended to the throne. It discloses that Charles was called to Balmoral from his nearby residence, Birkhall, which is one of his preferred retreats. Jennie Bond, the BBC's former Royal correspondent, shared in the film, "H...

Paint trap, poo smears, fire attack: Stalker jailed for new attacks on ex

Image
A stalker has been jailed over a paint bucket trap, set only a few months after he was released from prison for smearing his ex's home with poo. Gorkas Casanovas, 47, unleashed a wave of problems for his former boyfriend in August last year after serving an eight month sentence imposed at Inner London Crown Court in May for an equally unsettling spate of stalking attacks. The Spaniard, from Streatham, was dumped after a three-month relationship in December 2023, but decided to take matters into his own hands and embarked on a terrifying campaign of stalking and harassment . MyLondon previously reported how Casanovas hid under his victim's bed, lobbed dirty needles into his front garden, and splodged his door with poo, leaving the rest in a bag. After Casanovas filled the victim's keyhole with glue, police attended the address and found Casanovas outside wielding a Stanley knife, a screwdriver, and a load of syringes. He was arrested on the spot and jailed last year, but...

Aykiz Shah, at the age of 27, launched Salaam Cola back in October 2023 with no initial capital investment, spending only £160 on sample cans to kickstart her venture. By 2024, this enterprising mum had already achieved a staggering turnover of €6 million in Europe, including £1.6 million from UK sales alone, with her 66p cans and bottles retailing for £1. Warning for drivers to remove 4 items from car ahead of heatwave

Image
As the UK braces for a sizzling weekend with mercury levels predicted to soar up to 34C, drivers are being urged to clear out four everyday items from their vehicles to dodge any serious damage. The Met Office stated the necessary conditions for weather to be considered a heatwave. They said: "a UK heatwave threshold is met when a location records a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold. The threshold varies by UK county". Greater London and neighbouring Surrey , Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Cambridgeshire are most likely to meet heatwave criteria, with the Met Office stating that daily highs must hit at least 28C to enter official heatwave territory. Enfield Council has been awarded £18.6m by the government to connect its district heating network to eight schools. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero agreed to grant the money to support the council's wholly-owned company Energetik to "replace end-of-life gas boilers in schools" and connect them instead to the growing heat network. Oasis Academy, Heron Hall Academy, Capital City College, Waverley School, Edmonton County School, Winchmore School and St John and St James School will all be connected and supplied by Energetik via 12km of new pipes, expected to be operational by March 2028. At a cabinet meeting last week (June 11), senior Labour councillors also agreed an additional £1.6m capital loan from the council to Energetik to further support the project, along with £761,000 from the council's schools capital budget. Energetik's aim is to create a 23km (14-mile) network of pipes around the borough that take waste heat from Edmonton inciner...

King Charles remembers Air India victims as London is treated to flypast by vegetable powered jets

Image
The King has celebrated his official birthday with an 'eco-friendly' flypast by the Red Arrows and remembered all those killed in the Air India plane disaster. Trooping the Colour was a display of military pomp and pageantry but Charles asked for the traditional programme to include a minute’s silence, and for senior royals and officers taking part to wear black armbands as a mark of respect. When the royal family gathered later on Buckingham Palace ’s balcony they acknowledged the crowds and watched an aerial display of vintage and modern aircraft with the Red Arrows’ finale powered by a blend of 'sustainable' aviation fuel. The world-famous acrobatic team also used vegetable oil to produce their trademark red, white and blue vapour trails over the royal residence – believed to be a first. Trooping, also known as the King’s Birthday Parade, fell silent after Charles had inspected hundreds of troops on Whitehall’s Horse Guards Parade from a carriage with the Queen...
